Assistance Taking Bins to the Kerb

Taking bins to the kerb sounds simple until it isn't anymore. For some ACT residents, a steep driveway, a heavy landfill bin, or the distance from the house to the street can make bin night unsafe or impossible. Chronic illness, disability, injury, frail age and reduced mobility can all turn a routine household task into a serious barrier.

The ACT Government’s wheeled bin assistance service exists for this situation. Eligible residents can apply for help so their bins are collected from a designated spot on the property, emptied on the usual collection day, and returned afterwards.

The service is available to people living in single-unit dwellings where no one at the property is physically able to move the bins. On collection day, the contractor will collect the bins from an accessible, designated location, empty them and return them.

Assistance can be provided for your landfill, recycling and garden organics bins, either for a set period or on an ongoing basis. Bins need to be easily accessible and free from safety hazards.
